Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems

Blancaflor Piores-Arada is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), specializing in physical computing, information systems, and immersive open pedagogy. She currently serves as the Program Chair for the Diploma in Computer Science (DCS) and has previously held leadership roles in various academic programs, including the Master of Information Systems (MIS) and the Associate of Science in Information Technology (ASIT).

She holds a Master of Information Systems from UPOU. With a strong foundation in computer science and information systems, she is proficient in multiple programming languages, including C, Visual Basic, Arduino, Unity, PHP & MySQL, SAS, and Python. She is also a Certified Cybersecurity Professional (ISC2 CC) and holds multiple certifications in programming, IT standards, and education.

Her research interests focus on user experience, online education, IoT, and smart technology solutions, with several international research presentations and publications. She has been recognized for her contributions to teaching and research, receiving the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award (2022) and the Outstanding Educator Award (2021).

Beyond academia, she is actively involved in mentorship, program development, and resource speaking engagements in topics such as AI, cybersecurity, and emerging ICT trends.
