Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy

Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems

Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy (李仁傑) is an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), where he has been teaching since 2015. He is also the current Director of the UPOU ICT Development Office. He mostly teaches graduate courses on Programming Languages and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Pugoy received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He was a recipient of the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship Award, which allowed him to pursue his PhD in Computer Science and Information Engineering at the National Cheng Kung University in Tainan City, Taiwan. He completed his PhD in January 2023. Moreover, he recently finished his research fellowship at the Anadolu University in Turkey in October 2023.

He is an active researcher in the field of Distance e-Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and his work has been published in top academic journals and conferences. Particularly, his interests include Recommender Systems, Computational Linguistics/Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Learning Management Systems, and AI in Education. Furthermore, he is a recipient of several awards for his teaching and research, including the UPOU Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Faculty, Gold Medal of the Asian Association of Open Universities’ Young Innovators Award, and the First Prize of the Best Moodle Innovation at MoodleMoot Japan.
