COURSE TITLE: MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNICATION MEDIA RESOURCES AND SYSTEMS
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Structure of communication systems, application of management theories and principles in the effective operation of communication systems and media resources
PREREQUISITE: None
COURSE GOAL: (1) to gain a clearer understanding of systems theory and how it applies to communication programs and organizations; and (2) to gain a clearer understanding of how specific management functions apply to communication organizations and programs from a systems perspective.
Specifically:
- articulate at a higher level of discourse the meaning of systems, systems theory, and systems thinking;
- describe and provide an in-depth analysis of how systems features apply to communication organizations and programs;
- articulate and discuss the concepts, principles, and theories of management and demonstrate how they apply to communication organizations;
- analyze selected communication case studies and show how systems principles and management theories apply to these communication cases; and
- illustrate how systems and management principles and theories have influenced a deeper understanding of communication organizations and programs through the case studies presented in class.
