The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) continues to offer the “Ka Sora” Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) through its Massive Open Distance eLearning (MODeL) platform. Currently underway from November 1 to December 15, 2025, the course has engaged a growing number of learners exploring the life and contributions of Melchora Aquino, widely known as the Mother of the Philippine Revolution.
The “Ka Sora” MOOC, based on the graphic novel by Dr. Grace J. Alfonso, examines Melchora Aquino’s historical role and situates it within broader discussions on women’s heroism, civic participation, and the continuing relevance of these values in contemporary society. The course is free and open to anyone interested in learning at their own pace. Through self-paced modules, multimedia materials, and reflection activities, participants are encouraged to deepen their understanding of history and its social dimensions.
Learners have shared insights on how the course has strengthened their appreciation of ordinary individuals, particularly women, who have contributed to national development and community resilience.
Although the course is already in progress, registration and participation remain open until December 15, 2025. Enrollment is free, and participants who complete the course requirements will receive a digital certificate of completion from UPOU.
Educators and community facilitators are also encouraged to explore Ka Sora as a resource for integrating discussions on Filipino values, civic engagement, and gender in history into their learning programs.
The “Ka Sora” course is part of UPOU’s continuing efforts to provide open and accessible education to the public through MODeL. It reflects the university’s commitment to promoting lifelong learning and to using digital platforms as spaces for cultural and civic education.
