Eight alumni of the Doctor of Communication (DComm) Program and an alumna of the Master of Development Communication (MDC) Program, all mentored by DComm Chair and Professor, Dr. Jean A. Saludadez, as part of the mentoring process, presented their graduate research at the Communication as Constitutive of Organization (CCO) Preconference of the 75th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference. The preconference, themed Disrupting and Consolidating CCO Research: Moving Together in Different Directions” was held on 12 June 2025 in Denver, Colorado, USA.

The papers  were organized under two thematic panels, one focusing on general explorations of the CCO framework, and the other on the concept of ventriloquism, a subdomain of CCO. 

Panel on CCO Explorations:

  • Ms. Ma. Victoria Bravo (MDC) – Accomplishment of Interorganizational Collaboration: Communicative Practices of an International Body
  • Dr. Francis Raymond Calbay (DComm) – Structuring Innovation from Tech Startup Founding Stories: The Communicative Constitution of Innovation
  • Dr. Norman Ralph Isla (DComm)  – Authority of Non-Human Agents: Speech Act Analysis of the Peace Process Documents
  • Dr. Enrique Ligot (DComm) – The Agency of the Strategic Planning Voice in University Organizing: A Study of Imbrication of Thirds

Panel on Ventriloquism:

  • Dr. Benigno Agapito, Jr. (DComm) – The Agency of Film in History Education: A Ventriloquial Analysis of Zoom Teaching Techniques
  • Dr. Michael Jude Casaljay (DComm) – Teleacting an Authority: Compliance Certificate as a Non-Human Agent in Solid Waste Management
  • Dr. Noel Llamar (DComm) – Communicative Constitution of the Partial Voluntary Collective: A Ventriloquial Study of Authority in Leadership Development Communities
  • Dr. Evelyn Perez (DComm) – Students’ Confession Page as Spokesthing: A Ventriloquial Analysis
  • Dr. Arnelyn Torres (DComm) – The Communicative Constitution of Hospitality Organization: A Ventriloquial Analysis of Guest Service

Ms. Bravo, along with Drs. Agapito, Llamar, Perez, and Torres personally presented their papers at the conference. The remaining papers were delivered by their adviser and co-author, Dr. Saludadez.

The panel sessions were chaired by distinguished communication scholars Dr. Borris Brummans and Dr. François Cooren from the Université de Montréal, both leading figures in  CCO and ventriloquism research.This year’s ICA CCO Preconference, co- organized by Dr. Cooren with Joëlle Cruz  of the University  of Colorado, Boulder), and John McClellan (Aalborg University,  served as an important avenue for the UPOU alumni and faculty to contribute to ongoing theoretical, epistemological, and empirical conversations within the global CCO research community, showcasing the relevance and rigor of Filipino scholarship on the international stage.
