The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is pleased to announce the initiation of its inaugural Knowledge Exchange Project in partnership with the International Christian University (ICU) in Japan. This project seeks to promote substantive academic collaboration and knowledge transfer between the two universities. The Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), in collaboration with the Center for Open and Digital Teaching and Learning (CODTL) and the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), will host an ICU faculty member and six students who will collaborate with UPOU faculty and students during this five-day event, supported by a grant from the Japan International Christian University Foundation (JICUF).

The project focuses on key areas such as immersive open pedagogies, digital learning innovations, instructional design cases, and intercultural communication. UPOU and ICU seek to deepen their academic ties through this partnership while promoting innovative research and educational activities.

A key element of the project is facilitating knowledge exchange through a variety of dynamic activities. Both virtual and physical mobility initiatives will expand opportunities for participation, making it easier for collaborators from UPOU and ICU to engage and share insights. This approach will strengthen cooperation and enhance the flow of knowledge between the institutions. The in-person activities commence on 17 March 2025 and conclude on 22 March 2025. This visit will include a diverse array of activities, such as campus tours, immersive technology lectures, and interactive workshops aimed at fostering cross-institutional collaboration. This is augmented by virtual meetings conducted via Zoom and the metaverse before and following the in-person visit. A notable feature will be a specialized masterclass on Instructional Design Cases to be conducted by Dr. Craig Howard.

This initiative marks the beginning of a promising long-term partnership between UPOU and ICU, one that will nurture international academic collaboration. It aims to advance the development of innovative pedagogical practices and digital learning solutions, fostering mutual growth and knowledge exchange. Through this partnership, both institutions will continue contributing to the evolution of education in the digital age.
