Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy
Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems
Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy (李仁傑) is an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). He also serves as the Director of the UPOU ICT Development Office. Dr. Pugoy joined UPOU in 2015 and teaches graduate courses in Programming Languages and Artificial Intelligence. His academic background includes a PhD in Computer Science and Information Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, supported by the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship Award. He also holds a BS and MS in Computer Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He furthered his expertise with a research fellowship at the Anadolu University in Türkiye, completed in October 2023.
His research interests include Artificial Intelligence (Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Recommender Systems, and AI in Education) and e-Learning Platforms (Learning Management Systems). He has been recognized for his contributions to the field with several awards, including the UPOU Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Faculty, the Asian Association of Open Universities’ Young Innovator Award (Gold Medal), MoodleMoot Japan Best Moodle Innovation Award, and the Best Paper Award at the Philippine Computing Science Congress.
