DCOMM Orientation 2013

UPOU held the Doctor of Communication (DComm) Orientation program on 16-17 May 2013 at the UPOU Headquarters, Laguna.

The annual orientation program allowed the leveling-off of expectations about standards of performance in open and distance e-learning, initiate psycho-intellectual relationship between the students and the university, and reflection upon their experience as doctoral students in the electronic learning environment.


Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS) and Dr. Felix Librero, DComm Program Chair, put together the activity.

Faculty members who spoke at the orientation were Dr. Primo Garcia who talked about Open and Distance eLearning at UPOU; Dr. Melinda Bandalaria who presented Social Construction of Knowledge (through online discussion) and Spiral of Silence Phenomenon: Developing Critical Thinking, and Dr. Armi Santiago who discussed Academic Integrity and Academic Freedom at UP. Dr. Librero presented the DComm academic policies and program requirements.

Sharing their experiences in the program were the following DComm students who are academics as well in other universities: Anne Gachiri of Tangaza University College-Catholic University of Eastern Africa; Arnel Genzola of Jilin University-Lambton College, China; and Rey Ardamoy of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University also in China.

Twenty-eight new students were admitted to the program. (Criscelle Moya)
